Wenceslas Square a Hugely Popular Location when staying in a Prague Apartment

Wenceslas Square or Vaclavske namesti, is one of the most sought after locations by many guests when searching for a Prague apartment. Located in the New Town, a relative term as it is not new at all (the New Town was founded in 1328), Wenceslas Square is one of the two main hubs of central Prague, the other being Old Town Square in the Old Town. Historically Wenceslas Square has been the focal point for many important political changes in the history of Prague and the Czech Republic. It is now a tourist hot spot and where we can offer a great selection of Prague apartments.

Originally a horse market the square is in fact a long rectangular shape sloping gently upwards as one goes away from the Old Town culminating in the National Museum at the top. At this end of Wenceslas Square is a magnificent statue of Saint Wenceslas astride his steed. This is a great meeting place when returning from different activities around Prague if a group of people is staying in one of our Prague apartments as it can be seen from a good distance and everyone can locate it. Our Prague apartments are also located at this top end of Wenceslas Square as well as streets leading from the Square and we have Prague apartments in buildings on the long side of the Square.

The more recent history has seen the proclamation of independence of Czechoslovakia read in front of the stature on October 28 1918 by Alois Jirasek. During the Second World War, the Nazis used Wenceslas Square for mass demonstrations. Sadly in 1945 and the Prague Uprising some of the buildings were destroyed, now replaced by department stores. The harrowing event of the self- immolation of student Jan Palach on January 16 1969 as a protest against Soviet invasion of Czechoslovakia occurred in the Square. The Velvet Revolution of 1989 saw many large demonstrations here.

Nowadays Wenceslas Square is a more peaceful place, although some may disagree as it still buzzes with life. The square is lined with shops, hotels, casinos, bars, nightclubs, department stores and offices. There is even the British high street store Marks and Spencer here. This is always popular with guests in our Prague apartments from Britain as they can buy a little flavour of home. A great place to stock up on delicious food items when self catering in your Prague apartment.

Loving Prague has a number of large buildings with multiple Prague apartments on and around Wenceslas Square, which makes it ideal for larger groups, whether that be a stag group, a hen group or a family group. Our Prague apartments can cater to groups of all tastes, sizes and budgets. Check out our Big Group Booking Tool to see how easy it is to organise and book a large number of guests into our Prague apartments.

We have Prague apartments in some of the most stunning art deco buildings to be found in the streets off Wenceslas Square. If architecture is your thing then you could choose to stay in one of our Prague apartments in an historic building. These buildings keep their elegant facades and internal hallways and stairwells, however the Prague apartments within have been refurbished and modernised with sympathy, style and comfort.

If the lively nature of the modern day Wenceslas Square is what you are looking for but you need a quiet place to sleep we can recommend those Prague apartments that are very close to the square but that do not suffer from any street noise at night. For example, our beautiful Prague apartment Wenceslas Opera #1 (reference 4027). Within 5 minutes walk of this Prague apartment is the top end of Wenceslas Square and the statue of Saint Wenceslas, yet it is on a quiet street in Vinohrady. The best of both worlds.

There can be little doubt that a Prague apartment in this part of town will give you a real taste of life in Prague. For the independent traveller a Prague apartment close to Wenceslas Square offers history and culture from the 14th Century through to the modern day. For the party lover a Prague apartment on Wenceslas Square would be ideal as the bars and restaurants and the casinos are just beyond the door of your Prague apartment.
